And so we see that, for this administration, it is business as usual. The lofty and noble rhetoric of the President's State Of The Union Address not-with-standing, for the merchants of death, deception and hypocracy, business couldn't be better.
The rhetoric -
" Once again, we accept the call of history to deliver the oppressed and move this world toward peace."
" Human life is a gift from our creator, and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale." G. Bush January 2006
The reality -
-- U.S. to boost arms sales to India **
Friday, March 3, 2006; Posted: 1:40 a.m.
NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- As U.S. President George W. Bush arrives in Hyderabad Friday, the U.S. Department of Defense says India will be able to buy more sophisticated fighter aircraft and other high-tech arms from the United States as part of a closer defense relationship between the two nations.
"We have indicated our intention to offer both the F-16 and the F-18, both combat proven aircraft. As additional capabilities enter our force, we will work with the government of India to make them available,"
How in the world does supplying arms to a nation on the other side of the world enhance the 'defense' of the United States? How can that possibly enhance the security of the homeland. Since when did manufacturing and selling arms ever "move this world toward peace"? Since never. The fact is that weapons are manufactured, weapons are sold and weapons are used. Come on... let's call it like it is: it is the pockets of the death merchants that are being 'enhanced' with these kinds of policy arrangements.
The reality -
The geo-political gamesmanship never ends. Meddling as US foreign policy never ends.
-- India will be able to buy ... arms from the United States as part of a closer defense relationship between the two nations. **
"The essence of this strategic partnership is to provide a countervailing influence to China ... to act as a restraint on the exercise of Chinese power." **
Imagine how comfortable the Chinese government feels as it views these events. But then, Rumsfeld et al. have already identified China as the next big boogie man. Plans for an aggressive military posture vis a vis the Chinese is well under way in the Pentagon.
If you have an authentic interest in "restraining" the "exercise of Chinese power", stop exporting our jobs and our technology to China. Such export policies simply empower and strengthen the Chinese economically. The Chinese now do for us what we used to do for ourselves. One consequence is the yearly trade deficits that amount to billions. Why? So we can buy cheaper consumer goods? If you really want to limit Chinese power, take this economic advantage away from them. No one but the internationalists benefit from such policies. And while you are at it, stop borrowing money from the Chinese (again in the billions) that is used to run our government and pay for this stupid war (all the while cutting taxes). What horse's ass dreamed up these kinds of ridiculous economic policies? Who benefits? I suggest it is the internationalists and corporations; entities which have no loyalty to the United States whats-so-ever. Entities with no interest in the well-being or security of the people of America.

-- The Quadrennial Defense Review also focuses on defending the U.S. homeland against "catastrophic" attacks such as with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. Finally, it sets out plans for deterring the rising military heft of major powers such as China.
And towards that end, a Pentagon budget of $450 billion for FY 2007. Again and again, we create our own enemies.
The rhetoric -
"Terrorists like bin Laden are serious about mass murder, and all of us must take their declared intentions seriously. They seek to impose a heartless system of totalitarian control throughout the Middle East and arm themselves with weapons of mass murder." G. Bush January 2006
The reality -
The fact that India has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty designed to stop the spread of nuclear weapons to non-nuclear nations apparently doesn't trouble Bush and his merchants of death, deception and hypocracy, at all. Again, we see that corporate/industrial/military profits rest atop the pantheon of policy concerns and priorities for the government of the United States.
Again, we are reassured that all is well; that we need only trust the President.
"Proliferation is certainly a concern, and we've got a good-faith gesture by the Indian government..." G. Bush March 3, 2006
What the hell is that? What the hell is a "good-faith gesture"? Don't be suprised when we are informed that, for reasons of "security" that information is top secret. If you are willing to put the security of our country in the hands of this liar and put your faith in a "good-faith gesture" to keep WMD out of the hands of terrorists, I'd like to borrow $10 000. Trust me, "I'll pay you back" next week.
A few recent statistics concerning arms sales by the United States of America -
-- the US still dominates the arms market... The United States continued to dominate the global arms market last year, especially when measured in weapons deals to developing nations, although the total value of arms sales worldwide tumbled for the third consecutive year, according to a new U.S. Congressional study.
The United States maintained its lead in worldwide weapons sales in 2003, signing deals worth more than $14.5 billion, or 56.7 percent of all arms agreements, up from $13.6 billion in 2002, the study showed.
Russia ranked second, signing agreements worth $4.3 billion, or 16.8 percent of all global arms sales deals in 2003. That figure was down from nearly $6 billion in 2002.
Germany was the third largest merchant in the global arms market for 2003, signing deals worth $1.4 billion.
And so as to be sure the death merchants of the United States are not outdone, a little diplomatic strong-arming may be required from time to time.

EU arms manufacturers warned off China
By Rhys Blakely, Times Online
-- The United States Ambassador to the European Union has warned that European companies could face "negative consequences" if the EU pushes ahead with proposals to drop its arms embargo to China.
Ambassador Rockwell Schnabel, a close confidant and advisor to President George W Bush, told Times Online that opposition to the prospect of the EU lifting the arms ban was "right at the top" of Washington's agenda. "We feel that it is premature to discuss a lifting of this embargo. People involved in the Tiananmen protests are still in jail."
Those of you that believe this administration gives a damn about 'people involved in the Tiananmen protests'... Santa Claus sends you friendly greetings.
A little broader perspective on the merchants of death, deception and hypocracy -
Post 9/11 Economic Windfall For Arms Manufacturers
By Michelle Ciarrocca September 10, 2002
" ... In the wake of September 11, President Bush requested the largest increase in defense spending in two decades."
"... The potential for an open-ended war poses great opportunities for weapons makers and great challenges for those who seek to curb wasteful military spending."
"... Major defense contractors are figuring out new ways to tap the homeland defense market."
"... The increases in defense spending due to September 11 have allowed the Pentagon to avoid reform and transformation."
"... More than one-third of the Pentagon's $68 billion weapons procurement budget for this year will go to big-ticket items, cold-war era weapons systems."
"... The failure of policymakers and defense officials to cancel unnecessary weapons programs is, in large part, due to the undue influence exerted by top defense contractors."
Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Halliburton... the list of death merchants is as long as your arm. These same merchants are the corporations that contribute so handsomely to the Presidential and Congressional election campaign funds. Still not interested in public financing of elections? Fine... then we can continue to let the corporate/military economic infrastructure, the death, deception and hypocracy merchants dictate policy.
I would have you understand that when I call upon the people of the United States to "redefine their place in the world", these are precisely the types of policies and issues they must confront, re-examine and change. Business as usual just ain't gonna get it done. Do you really want to continue supporting the death merchants? Still want to believe that the death merchants and the politicians that serve them have your best interests at heart? Is this the export business America really wants to be in? Fine... but don't start whining ( "gee, why do they hate us?") when the peoples of the world react and reject our policies.

"An American diplomat and three other people were killed when a suicide attacker rammed a car packed with explosives into theirs. The bombing on Thursday was in Karachi, about 1,000 miles south of Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, where Bush will meet with Pervez Musharraf, the military leader who took power in a 1999 coup."
